Boat Parade!

The Annual 4th of July Boat Parade on Lake Sarah has become something of a family tradition. In particular the decorating contest has evolved into an annual effort frequently involving many of the neighborhood kids in addition to our family.

2012 - may the 4th be with you! Star Wars entry. (2nd Place Winner) This years decorating contest theme was Favorite Movie so the kids chose Star Wars. With a little planning and the cartons from the new deck chairs a (death) star was born. Signs were black painted cardboard (painted by Megan, Jordan and Freddie), death star paint by Blake and Derek, Star Wars lettering was made using yellow electrical tape, fighters were X-wing nylon kites. Derek as Darth, Jordan as a Jedi knight, Megan is Princess Leia, Blake plays Luke Skywalker, Freddie and Alex played the Storm Troopers. Official high temperature this July 4th was a record breaking 101F making this year a tough one on the kids who took frequent breaks in the shaded area behind the death star.

2010 - Fire Rescue Boat (Tied for Overall Best Entry). Federal signal siren, full Jetstream lightbar w/ red filters, 1 1/2" fire suppression nozzle on a honda gas water pump with 2" output (about 35'-40' of effective water stream). Cab was created by wood framing covered with red plastic tablecloth material. Letters made with white duct tape. Red tshirts over the kids pfd's, helmets loaned from Maple Plain F.D. Flags found on Ebay.

2009 - Fun Police (Winner - Originality). FS Jetstream aerodynamic lightbar red / blue filters and strobes, siren & speaker from fire emergency vehicle. Boat wrapped in black landscaping fabric with letters painted on by the kids. Costumes included hats, blue tshirts over life vests, lake city PD shoulder patches, whistles, cap guns.
